Andy Street

CBE, Managing Director, John Lewis

Andy has spent his career at the John Lewis Partnership, joining after graduating from Oxford with a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics in 1985.  Andy became Managing Director of the John Lewis Division in 2007 and has led the business through times of significant change in both the economy and the retail industry at large.

During this time, John Lewis’s gross sales have increased in excess of 50% to over £4.4bn. It has opened 20 new shops, and the johnlewis.com business has seen annual sales of over £1.6bn making the department store one of the UK’s most respected and successful retailers.

After initial roles in department stores, head office and manufacturing units, Andy became Managing Director of John Lewis Milton Keynes in 1993, followed by the same role at Bluewater in 1998. In 2000 he became Supply Chain Director, followed by his appointment to the Partnership Board as Director of Personnel in 2002. In 2014, Andy was named the ‘Most Admired Leader’ of the year by business magazine, Management Today.

Andy is Chair of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), the body tasked with driving economic growth in the region. He sits on the board of the Department for Communities and Local Government as Lead Non-Executive Director, and is also Vice Chairman of Performances Birmingham Limited, which is responsible for running the city’s Symphony and Town Halls.

In June 2015 he was awarded a CBE for services to the economy, in his roles as managing director of John Lewis and as Chair of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership.

Dan Brooke

Chief Marketing & Communications Officer

Dan heads up Marketing, Press and Publicity, 4Creative and Corporate Relations across the Channel 4 group.  He joined from documentary producer Rare Day, where he was Managing Director.  Previously, he was Managing Director of Discovery Networks UK, leading Discovery’s portfolio of channels through a period of change and innovation with the launches of seven new channels and several digital media services.

Brooke also worked at Channel 4 from 1998 to 2005, joining as the Head of Marketing & Development for FilmFour, rising to be Managing Director of Digital Channels.  He was responsible for the development and award-winning launches of E4, Film4 and More4 and, in 2001, was elected Young Marketer of the Year by the Marketing Society for his role in the birth of E4.

Under Brooke’s direction, Channel 4’s award-winning 4Creative and Marketing teams were  recently awarded Campaign’s 2015 Advertiser of the Year – on top of winning 24 Gold, Silver and Bronze honours at the Promax Awards 2015, including the award of the night ‘Channel of the Year’ for Channel 4. C4 was also voted “Diversity Brand of the Year 2015” by Marketing Week. He is on the Boards of Channel 4, Britdoc, the Camden Arts Centre and the Mass Extinction Monitoring Observatory.

Dion Johnson

Lady Pauline Long is a multi-award winning entrepreneur, philanthropist and TV producer and presenter who has been listed on BLACK WOMEN IN EUROPE POWER LIST and top 100 Africans in UK. She is a global ambassador for Universal Peace Federation. She is the Owner and founder of Europe’s biggest award ceremony for black and ethnic personalities in showbiz – BEFFTA Global brand and owner of award winning film studio East End studios, Mr and Miss East Africa UK and Pauline Long Entrepreneurship Foundation.  She has also been crowned the most celebrated female by Leadership Mind Ambassadors organisation and named African/Caribbean Woman of the year.. She has also been honoured in UK parliament as one of 100 most outstanding Africans.

She is a popular presenter on premiere global TV talk show THE PAULINE LONG SHOW on Sky Channel 182 -BEN TV. The mother of two is passionate about mentoring the youth. Juliette Alban

Metcalfe, MSc, MSc, CPsychol, Chief Executive

Juliette is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and Chief Executive of Real World Group (a University of Leeds spin-out company). She is also Adjunct Associate Professor at the Centre for Sustainable Business and Enterprise, University of Southern Queensland.

Juliette has been working with Real World Group for the past 15 years, supporting leadership development with both individuals and groups up to Board level globally. She has a particular passion for a focus on positive psychology and diversity & inclusion in leadership.

She has helped establish Real World Group’s approach to Engaging Leadership, based on uniquely proven research involving tens of thousands of people across the world, and has authored or co-authored most of Real World Group’s diagnostic instruments.

The research Juliette has been involved with has established the common sense but often missing behaviours that distinguish leaders from managers, and effective leadership among teams and organisations. Tara Howard

Founder of the Venus Awards

Tara is the founder of the Venus Awards and is now spearheading the expansion to other regions across the country. She is rapidly becoming a figurehead for Women in Business. All of this with four children to worry about!

Having been brought up in a hotel (Langtry Manor in Bournemouth), Tara at 18 left to work in London and soon after travelled the world. At the age of 22 she followed in her mother’s footsteps becoming a commercial pilot and flight instructor whilst also helping to produce a large scale Opera in Toronto and New York. After returning home and taking over the family business, the Langtry Manor hotel won many awards for excellence. With a reputation for high quality service the hotel hosted up to 100 weddings a year. Never shy of a challenge Tara has trekked to Everest Base Camp, completed the Bournemouth Pier to Pier Swim and twice finished the London to Brighton Cycle ride

Vlatka Hlupic

Professor

Vlatka is an international award-winning thought leader, an activist for humanising management, and an author of a ground-breaking book ‘The Management Shift – How to Harness the Power of People and Transform Your Organization for Sustainable Success’ (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014), which was listed by Forbes as one of the top eight business books in 2014.  She is a Professor of Business and Management at the University of Westminster, a former Adjunct Faculty at London Business School, a consultant for Said Business School, and a global faculty member of FT/IE Corporate Learning Alliance. She is also a founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Management Shift Ltd and the Drucker Society London. She received a PhD in Information Systems at the London School of Economics, as well as a BSc (Hon) in Economics and an MSc in Information Systems from the University of Zagreb. She was voted one of the Most Influential International HR Thinkers 2015 by HR Magazine and has won the Croatian Woman of Influence Award (in “Business” category).

Vlatka is the winner of the CMI Management Articles of the Year Award 2015 and the winner of the Axiom Business Books Award (silver medal in the “Leadership” category). She has been nominated for the Thinkers50 Guru Radar and “Ideas to practice” Award. Her book has been shortlisted for the CMI Management Book of the Year Award and it has been nominated for the FT & McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award.

As a renowned professional keynote and TEDx speaker, she regularly presents at major business events worldwide. She has published more than 200 academic articles, including the award winning ‘To be a Better Leader, Give up Authority’, Harvard Business Review, December 2009.

Vlatka is also a management consultant and Board adviser, helping organisations worldwide substantially to improve performance, engagement, innovation and profit. Monica Bulman

Longest Serving Nurse (87)

Monica, a Registered General Nurse (RGN), works on Hutchings ward at Torbay Hospital as part of the specialist outpatient surgical clinic team for Endoscopy. She is one of the oldest nurses in Britain.

Monica Bulman started walking the wards in 1952 aged 19 and qualified as a registered nurse five years later.

Ever since, she has dedicated her life to treating tens of thousands of patients – and all while raising two sons and juggling a marriage.

Amazingly, the inspirational grandmother – who loves books and going spinning – still works between 15 and 20 hours a week and has no plans to retire.

Monica Bulman, who was born on September 1 1933, began her career at Eltham and St John’s Hospitals in London.
